The handle is scorched and stabilized white oak.

Mjolnir - Hammer of Thor Prices range from $300 to $2500
Mjolnir have been among my favorite projects. Each one is hand made with a variety of embellishments available. I often start with a salvaged antique hammer head and add bluing, engraving, carving, poured pewter, mosaic pins, inlay, and overlay, but new steel is also an option. Embellishments may include traditional Norse designs, Runes and Bindrunes. Full sized hammers are typically 14 - 18 inches long and weigh 8 - 12 pounds.
